Pegau Comes to Shubie’s

Meet the Winemaker:
Laurence Feraud of Domaine du Pégau
Wednesday, February 7, 4p-6p

You read that right! We are thrilled, honored and privileged to welcome and host arguably one of the best winemakers in the world–Laurence Feraud!

But Feraud wasn’t always sure she would end up in the vineyards. In 1986, after spending some time in Paris studying marketing, she decided she wanted to come back to her family’s 10 acres of vineyards that her father had been tending, but she soon realized that her and her father weren’t exactly on the same page. So she packed up her bags again and went back to Paris, but this time she spent all her money, was broke and in 1987 headed back to the family farm.

In 1988, she produced her first vintage. But she was getting fed up. Feraud felt limited being in the countryside and thought about going back to Paris for good. That is until one day when Michel Bettane, France’s leading wine critic, stopped by, tried her wines, wrote an article about her wine and his article brought in over 100 private customers. She thought, “Ok, maybe we can do this!”

And so Feraud did do it and has been producing some of the most award-winning and acclaimed wines in the world. It’s all about tradition for Feraud. The wines of Pégau consistently offer a cassis and black fruit quality that other wineries in the region only dream of being able to produce. Pégau wines are known for their intense and powerful tannins, which make them long-lived and blossom into stunning wines with power and finesse. And despite their dark ripeness, the wines of Pégau brace the palate with a remarkable freshness.

Renowned wine critic, Robert Parker has this to say about Pégau: “This superb estate fashions an old style, massive, unbelievably rich, rustic Châteauneuf du Pape. If you want to taste what the old style Châteauneuf du Pape of the forties, fifties, and early sixties tasted like, buy a bottle of Domaine du Pégau. They are rich, rustic, sometimes massive Châteauneuf du Papes made with no concession to modern-day tastes.” Furthermore, he continues “I have long been a huge fan of this estate, and have put my money where my mouth is, having purchased all of Pégau’s vintages since 1979.”  Quite the praise from the world’s leading wine critic!

We hope that you can join us for a truly special, special event with one of the world’s most sought after wines presented by one of the world’s leading winemakers.
