Shubie's Spotlight 11/8/2021
We’ve all tried out items from local brands that we really, really want to love and just… don’t. They just fall a little bit short, and that’s okay, but they’re not going to be your next big obsession. Which is tough. You want to shout from the rooftops “AND IT WAS MADE IN TOWN!”, but your heart wouldn’t be in it. It’s okay, we get it.
That’s not what’s happening here, though.
These eats have us doing a little dance as we shout “AND THEY’RE LOCAL, TOO!”. We’re a little more excited opening the pantry/freezer/fridge/cooler/cabinet. We feel pretty sad when we realize we’re almost out, and a little spark of joy when we realize we can just get more.
These are the items have us on the edge of our seats:
From the Nadia Liu Spellman, daughter of old Boston favorite Sally Ling, comes Dumpling Daughter. Slinging buns and dumplings fresh from their kitchens in Weston, Cambridge and Brookline, you can find authentic Roasted Pork Buns, Chicken and Cabbage Dumplings, and Pork and Chive Dumplings in the freezer section of Shubie’s. Pairing beautifully with their Spicy Sweet Soy Sauce, you’ll feel like you’re eating food straight from their kitchen, and all you had to do was open your freezer.
So you’ve had your dumplings, you’ve washed them down. Now what? Something sweet? Something sweet that won’t leave you feeling less than your best? Have you tried Freedom Gluten Free’s Mini Donuts? They come in three flavors: Devil’s Food Chocolate, Old Fashioned Glaze, and Apple Cider. Fresh from Woburn, these guys make a great after dinner treat, or a great dessert to bring to the next get together with friends.
Dinner, dessert, but what about the snacking in between? Call it a midday pick me up. Or, you know, a whenever you need it pickup. Made right in Somerville with ingredients you can pronounce, we’re loving Hot Dates. Medjool Dates coated in dark chocolate and seasoned sunflower butter, seasoned with a kick of nutmeg and cayenne; these vegan snacks are there for you.
So, what did you think? Did we miss anything? Are you grabbing your keys and heading over right now? We’ve got all this and more, in abundance. See you soon!
